ICE Identity Match Limits
An A-number search is stronger than a name search, but even an identifier must be checked against country of birth and the custody event. The biographical route can fail because of compound surnames, spacing, transliteration, or a recorded birth date difference. Search only defensible variants and document them. If no match appears, contact the official detention-information channel with the county transfer record rather than treating the blank screen as proof of release.
ICE detention system / Online Detainee Locator Release Scope
McMullen’s local record should identify a receiving agency when a criminal custodian transfers a person. That disposition is the bridge to ODLS. Without it, a broad immigration search risks joining unrelated events. Request the physical jail’s departure timestamp, public detainer information, and receiving authority, then compare the A-number or biographical details in the federal system.
ODLS information is time-sensitive. The research identifies its public coverage as current detention and certain releases within 60 days. Older release proof may require a focused federal records request. Preserve the exact spelling, country of birth, date of birth, A-number when known, search date, and any facility contact shown. These details allow ICE to distinguish a data delay from a record outside online scope.
ICE Custody Record Scope
ODLS is a status tool, not the complete immigration file. It does not replace the county transfer record, federal immigration-court record, or a formal agency response. When a durable record is needed, preserve the search inputs and ask the agency responsible for the event. A county request should identify the McMullen booking and seek the receiving authority. A federal request should identify the A-number, full name, birth date, and approximate transfer date.
Ask for existing documents, not a narrative created for the request. Some information may be withheld under federal law. The sound result is a dated chain that separates county departure, ICE acceptance, detention, and any later ICE release.
McMullen ICE Transfer Records
An immigration detainer can cause a person to leave the physical housing jail without entering the community. The McMullen Sheriff’s record should identify its release disposition or receiving agency. The jail that physically held the person should hold the departure time. ICE then becomes the correct custodian for the next event.
No ICE detention center was identified inside McMullen County. The ICE Online Detainee Locator covers a federal system whose detention locations can change. Do not label an ICE result as a local jail record, and do not describe a transfer as an ordinary county release.
Search ICE Detainee Status
The locator offers two search paths. The strongest uses the person’s A-number and country of birth. The biographical path uses name, date of birth, and country of birth. Names should match immigration records, including spacing and hyphens. Search reasonable variants only when the spelling is uncertain.
- Confirm with McMullen Sheriff or the housing jail that ICE was the receiving authority.
- Open ODLS and choose A-number or biographical search.
- Enter the country of birth and exact required identity fields.
- Compare every displayed identifier before relying on the match.
- Follow the result’s contact direction and verify the present custodian.
A failed search does not establish release. A recent handoff may not yet appear. Data-entry differences, age restrictions, confidential cases, or custody outside the searchable scope can also yield no result. Contact ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations when the official locator directs further inquiry.
ICE Search Field Meanings
Each input serves identity matching, not a broad name check. The A-number is the most useful identifier when it is complete. Country of birth is required in both paths. The biographical route needs the birth date and name as held by ICE.
| Search field | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| A-number | Links to an immigration record | Must be entered in the required format |
| Country of birth | Narrows both search modes | Not current citizenship |
| Name | Biographical match | Spelling differences can hide a record |
| Date of birth | Separates same-name people | Wrong data can return no result |
Record the search date and inputs. If ICE and the county record differ, identify which event each source describes. The county jail documents departure from its custody. ICE documents its own detention status. Neither replaces the court record for the criminal case.
Released ICE Detainee Results
ICE states that ODLS can cover people currently detained and certain people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. That recent window is not a permanent release archive. A result outside that scope may require direct agency contact or records procedures.
“Released” from ICE addresses immigration custody only. It does not decide a state charge, federal criminal case, supervision term, or future immigration proceeding. A person may have reporting duties or pending court dates after leaving detention. Use official case channels for those separate questions.
- Detainer
- A request or authority connected with a transfer to immigration custody.
- Transfer
- Departure from one custodian while detention continues with another.
- ICE release
- Departure from ICE detention, which does not resolve every legal proceeding.
- A-number
- An immigration identifier used for the most precise ODLS search.
County and ICE Evidence
Build a two-event record when McMullen custody comes first. Ask the Sheriff which jail housed the person and what release disposition is recorded. Request the existing booking sheet, release date and time, receiving authority, and public detainer information. Then search ICE with the identity details tied to that same person.
The McMullen court docket may explain the state charge, bond, dismissal, sentence, or transfer order. It cannot prove the exact time ICE accepted custody. Likewise, ODLS does not explain the disposition of the McMullen criminal matter. Keeping the sources separate prevents a false claim that the county case ended merely because the person moved.
A focused request should use full name, date of birth, booking date, and date range. Ask for existing records, not a new report. Texas Public Information Act exceptions and federal confidentiality rules may affect what is released.
ICE Detention Information Contact
The official ICE detention information page provides help beyond ODLS. Use the contact route shown for the detention location or ERO field office. Because location can change, confirm the current facility before arranging a visit, sending property, or traveling.

McMullen County’s 401 Main Street Sheriff address is an originating law-enforcement contact, not an identified ICE site. The Sheriff can identify a reported transfer. ICE must confirm its own custody and release event.
ICE Versus Other Systems
Use BOP for a sentenced federal prisoner. Use the federal docket and USMS district office for much federal pretrial or transportation custody. Use TDCJ for Texas prison custody and state parole or mandatory supervision. ICE ODLS is limited to civil immigration detention and recent ICE release information.
| Custody episode | Primary public route |
|---|---|
| McMullen-originated arrest | Sheriff and physical housing jail |
| Texas prison sentence | TDCJ offender search and records |
| Sentenced federal imprisonment | BOP Inmate Locator |
| Federal pretrial movement | Federal docket and USMS |
| Immigration detention | ICE ODLS and ERO |
No single locator covers all five. A negative ODLS search says nothing about ordinary McMullen release, TDCJ confinement, or BOP custody.
Confirm ICE Release Carefully
First secure the county or prior custodian’s transfer record. Next, match the individual in ODLS with the A-number or full biographical data. Confirm the current detention location with the listed contact. If the result indicates recent ICE release, retain the result date and seek the official ICE record when a durable confirmation is needed.
The McMullen County released inmate record path covers the local booking, housing-jail, and court sources. It should be used for the county episode. ICE evidence begins only when immigration custody is supported by an official record.
Use restrained wording. “Transferred from the housing jail to ICE” and “released from ICE detention” describe different events. Neither phrase should be substituted for the other.
